Jazz All Stars First rehearsal!

Hello Everyone!
The time is almost here for our first rehearsal which will be this Sunday DECEMBER 14th from 1:30-4:30 @ Archbishop Wood High School. Please have your student bring their instrument and music (of course!) and a snack, please keep them peanut free as we do have some students with allergies.

Please Please Please sign up for the JAZZ BAND alert system on the AEmusic.org website it is not the same as the concert band call list! With all the in-climate weather we had last year it is really important to be able to notify you of changes to the rehearsal schedule.

Welcome to the Jazz All Star Blog! UPDATED TIMES

2014-2015 Jazz All Star
Audition Information

Hello Prospective Jazz All Star,

My name is Mr. Myers and I am the conductor of this year’s 2014-2015 Jazz All Stars! If you are interested in auditioning for the Jazz All Star all the information you need is located right here in this audition packet, or jazzallstars.blogspot.com. This years auditions will be held at

NATIVITY of OUR LORD SCHOOL
585 W. Street Rd
Warminster, PA 18974
Sunday, November 16th @ 1:30pm

It is important that you arrive on time for the auditions and sign in at the registration tables so we know you have arrived. The audition is a blind audition, which means you will be judged solely on how well you perform the piece attached to this letter, not on previous years experience, or seniority. Please be prepared to play any or all sections attached to this form. The Jazz All Stars rehearse prior to most of the Honor Band rehearsals as well as a few extra dates listed below. If you intend on participating this year please plan on attending ALL rehearsals, it is crucial to the success of the band that everyone be present for rehearsals and concerts. Many of the shows we play are listed below but there will be a few additional shows in the spring at some of the local Jazz Festivals that will be announced as we schedule them however, I have included any dates we currently have scheduled below. I look forward to working with you this year, best of luck to all those auditioning!

Jazz Update

Hello Parents,

Sorry I have been radio silent for the last week or so! Our school musical was last weekend and completely took over.

This weekend the Jazz fest at St. AA is still a go!!! The schedule for saturday night is posted below. We will warmup in room 7B I believe. Please stick with the Black shirt + fun tie dress code that has been working well! Mr. Norton has graciously offered us the Band room at St. AA to run a quick rehearsal from 5:00-5:30 then we will move to the warmup room to lock in tuning and song selections from 6:00-6:45

Unfortunately we have had to drop out of the St. Dot's festival the AOP String Festival has caused a few too many conflicts for us to attend so I had to notify Mr. Mayo that we will not be able to participate as expected.

So in short... we only have one show this weekend and it is at St. Aloysius Academy!

St. AA Jazz Fest Schedule

Arrive to Band Room with instruments out and seated ready to play by 5:00pm (5:00-5:30 rehearsal)
Move to Warmup Room-6:00pm-6:45pm
Festival Begins-7:00pm
Jazz All Stars Performance- 8:45 (warm-up in 7B)
Awards-9:15

I know this is a long day but I am really looking forward to seeing the kids perform again! It is always a blast, and St. Aloysius puts on a great event!!!

Jazz Info

Hello All,

The St. AA festival April 5th we may not be able to rehearse before hand. My school's musical is next week so I'm pretty booked up over the next week and a half. If I can coordinate a quick rehearsal at Wood that day or sometime the first week of April I will let you know ASAP.

As for the St. Dot's fest on April 6th we will perform 3 songs for our set. I would love to work Cold Duck time in for this event but we may not be able to if we don't squeeze a rehearsal in. Please have your students work on Cold Duck time with the recording on the blog.

The Jazz Fest at ABW on May 1st. Is a Thursday, I am currently working on a formal letter you can submit to your principals for permission to attend. The OCE said this must be done on a school to school basis but they don't expect any problems getting approval from the schools to excuse the students. The festival will begin at 10am and run all day till 4:30. There will be a break then the concert starts at 6:30 we will be performing first. Denis and George will sit in with the kids and solo on the songs with them. It is a really cool event. The kids should come ready to play and ready to learn! These are two of the best educators in the country and will be an awesome experience for everyone involved.

Try the three links above and let me know how they work. If you already submitted a form please fill another one out... i had to remake them all and couldn't keep the data previously submitted. I think i have been sharing the wrong link. Sorry for the learning curve!!! They just really help keep everything in one document when I do it right!
I would also love to do some service projects at some local nursing homes and or bookstores (Barnes and Noble etc,) but I want to wait until the weather warms up before we go committing to anything.
The kids have done an amazing job preparing some hard music in a short amount of time. They are some of the hardest working kids I have had the pleasure of teaching! I hope that we can have numerous opportunities to show off their talents
Have a wonderful saturday! See you all tomorrow
